Australian summer means scorching hot days. We all have to keep sun and heat safe. Similarly, we need to look after our technology in this heat. Here are some tips to keep your tech cool this Aussie summer:

  1. Keep out of the sun – Exposure to direct sunlight and immense heat will damage your devices. Keep them in the shade if possible.
  2. Airflow – Devices are heat generators themselves, they require sufficient airflow to allow their inbuilt ventilation to keep them cool. Ensure all vents are free of obstruction.
  3. Give them Space – Ensure the device has room to breathe. Small spaces can be a major reason for insufficient airflow and cooling.
  4. Don’t Stack – Do not stack your devices on top of one another. Many heat-generating items together will dramatically increase the surrounding temperatures.
  5. Keep it clean – Dust and heat is a terrible combination in terms of tech. Ensure your devices and their ventilation systems are dust free and maintained regularly.
  6. If your device does overheat – Turn it off and allow it to cool naturally with airflow and shade. Do not keep using your device. Give it a little rest and some tlc.
  7. Avoid rapid changes in temperature – If your device has overheated do not place it in the refrigerator or the freezer. Exposing your device to these extreme temperature changes can cause damage and attract moisture.
  8. If overheating is a common issue there are many cooling pads and products which can facilitate the process of cooling.

Remember – stay cool this summer, humans and devices alike.
